Welcome to St George's School
You will no doubt be aware that the weather forecast for this week shows some unusually warm weather for June.
The temperature from Tuesday 23rd until Friday 26th looks to be particularly hot. Therefore, please be reassured that it will be appropriate for children to wear their school PE kits this week (white t-shirts and blue or black shorts) in order to stay cooler. They should also have a water bottle and, if they have one, a sun hat. Please also apply sunscreen before the school day begins.
We reserve the right to make changes to the day to respond to any concerns arising from increasing temperature. Beyond 25 degrees we may start to limit exposure outside, and beyond around 30 degrees may take further measures. However, throughout, we encourage children to stay hydrated, reduce physical activity and increasingly stay in the shade (including remaining indoors if required) as temperatures rise. The buildings are managed in order to enable drafts through classrooms, additional fans are being installed and temperature monitoring points have been established.
In the event that a child has a medical diagnosis that, as part of it, requires excessive temperatures to be avoided, and you have additional mitigations in place in the home (eg air conditioning), please let us know if you need to retain a child at home in order to put this in place. We may ask for a GP to confirms that this arrangement is required.
In reality, our local schools and homes are likely to all be of a similar temperature for the next few days. Children benefit from meeting with their friends and peers and adults in the household have responsibilities in the workplace. Local schools will therefore, as far as possible, apply the national 'good practice guidance' which forms the actions we are taking at St George's School. We recognise, however, that this is a changing situation, and that decisions may need to be revisited in the future to ensure they remain appropriate and balanced.
Mr Messer : June 23rd 2026
Welcome to our wonderful school. With one of the highest progress outcomes (most recent national progress data) and evidenced success including children within a mainstream environment, we strive to enable children to achieve their best whilst also ensuring that we provide high quality personal support for young people. Children can start with us from the age of 3 years in our Nursery, providing an additional year of Early Years and Foundation Stage learning.
I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Mr James Newell (see below) as the new Headteacher with effect from September 2026. It is wonderful to be able to welcome him aboard.
We are:
- An Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence
- Mathematics White Rose Champion School
- Primary Science Quality Mark School
- ELKLAN Communication School
- Mental Health Champion School
- An EPC Wraparound Care and Holiday Club Provider
- Confirmed as a Good School by Inspection
We are aiming towards being:
- An Artsmark School
- An OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Provider
Please remember to support your child by:
- Attending school every day. Please make sure that your child arrives promptly between 8:40-8:50am every day. We will strive for every child to have excellent attendance, and we ask that you support us in this ambition.
- Seeing every child in school uniform. Please do not feel it is essential for every child to have a logo on their jumper. However, so every child feels included, we do ask that they are all in full uniform, which can be purchased from supermarkets as well as from Smarty Pants Schoolwear.
- Supporting our Ready, Respectful, Safe expectations.
