Welcome to Year 6 2024-2025
Year 6 Curriculum 2024-2025
Welcome to the Year 6 team! This year we are proud to announce our exciting curriculum to captivate our pupils in their learning journey. In Year 6, there are 3 contexts taught over the year which are rigorously planned and linked to build on previous learning through new and exciting concepts. Each one is deliberately named to have far reaching appeal and allow a range of curriculum links . In addition to this, carefully planned enrichment experiences are used to launch the learning and engage our children into thinking and planning ahead for their own learning. We begin our learning in the Autumn term with our theme called 'Let's Remember WW2.' We have a wealth of enrichment activities to support our learning: A historical WW2 day at our Woodland's school field, a visit to Duxford, a visit to our Colchester war memorial in town to lay a wreath and a VE celebration day! As we enter the Spring term we will be starting our new theme called 'Amazing Adventures and Joyous Journey's! Our theme is based the book 'Kensuke's Kingdom' and each subject is carefully interwoven to provide a purposeful curriculum. During the spring term we have exciting local fieldwork planned! The final term is packed with captivating learning experiences: our annual residential trip to Mersea, a school production, theatre experiences with our local Mercury Theatre, secondary school transition days, Entrepreneur day, Leavers day out and of course our annual Dragon Team winner water fight! We are sure that you will agree this will definitely be a great Year for our Year 6 children!

SATS
Year 6 SATS
The Year 6 children take part in SATS tests. The purpose of SATs is to measure your child's attainment in maths, reading, and grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS). Your child will be tested on curriculum content from Years 3-6 across six test papers. Key dates: Monday 8th May 2023 GPS paper, Tuesday 9th May 2023 Reading paper, Wednesday 10th May 2023 Arithmetic and Reasoning Maths paper 2 and Thursday 11th May 2023 Reasoning Maths paper 3.
Homework in Year 6
Your child will be given weekly spelling homework. They will have a weekly talk homework to complete with you, this will support their weekly 'Write to the top' independent writing lesson. In Year 6, children will also bring home CGP books to complete Maths and Grammar homework, this will be set by the Teacher. You will recieve a school Ping with the page numbers and the children will also record these each week. At St George's Primary school, children read at home five times a week and in Year 6 we kindly ask that you sign your child's reading diary to show that they have met this.
