Geography

Subject Leaders: Miss E Handley & Mrs L Wallace

At St George’s, our geography curriculum is designed to ignite children’s curiosity and fascination about the world around them. We want our pupils to explore the many ways our planet is diverse, connected, and constantly changing.

Through exciting fieldwork, hands-on experiences, and enquiry-based learning, children develop key skills in investigating, collecting and analysing information. They gain a deeper understanding of both the physical features of our world – like rivers, mountains and weather – and the human aspects, such as communities, cultures and how people interact with their environment.

Our aim is for every child to leave St George’s with a strong sense of place in the world, a love of learning about it, and the confidence to ask questions and seek answers.

Inspiring Global Citizens

At St George’s, we want our children to grow into thoughtful, informed global citizens who care about the world around them. By building strong geographical knowledge, our pupils learn to make responsible choices that can have a positive impact – both now and in the future.

We also aim to spark a real love of geography by nurturing a sense of fun, wonder and excitement about the world – from their own doorstep to faraway places.

Our rich and diverse local area provides the perfect backdrop for meaningful, real-world learning. By exploring their surroundings, children develop a deeper understanding of different cultures, communities and environments, helping them to see the world through a wider lens.

Local Geography

At St. George's we try to use the local environment as much as possible to enrich our Geography curriculum. This can incorporate; the colne river, bourne pond and mill, local physical and human features and landmarks and local developments.
